Notes: Smackdown kicked off on a slow start. Chris Jericho came out to the middle of the ring to announce that he was captain of the Smackdown Team for Bragging Rights. He showcased the new DX book and began making insulting them. He tore up the book and then commented the “sheep” who buy all the DX merchandise. Kane interrupted Jericho and announced that he was the co-captain of the Smackdown Team. Jericho said that it was a good thing that Kane was on the Smackdown Team and his inclusion would mean the end of the Raw Team. Kane declared that the Raw Team would go up in flames. This was pretty much a boring opening segment of Smackdown.
Jericho confronted Michelle McCool and asked her if he could count on her to represent Smackdown. McCool agreed and said that she could beat any Diva at any time. I started to laugh. Mickie James chimed into the conversation and insisted that Jericho consider her to represent Smackdown, because she has defeated every Diva on Raw. McCool, annoyed, walked away and ran into Beth Phoenix. Beth focused her sight on the WWE Women’s Championship and threatened McCool to watch her back. I feel and McCool vs. Phoenix feud coming!
CM Punk went to Mr. McMahon to ask if he could drop the fatal four way at Bragging Rights. Mr. McMahon said no way since it has already been advertised. Then, Mr. McMahon announced that CM Punk would face The Undertaker in a submission match with Armstrong as the referee and Teddy Long at ringside. CM Punk looked very happy.
The Dirt Sheet was the highlight of Smackdown. The Miz was great on the mic and Morrison was good, too. They were discussing popular duo’s where one person went on to great success and the other faded away into obscurity. They mentioned Mork and Mindy, Bill and Ted, Wayne and Garth, and The Rockers. The Miz compared Morrison to Marty Jannetty. Morrison shot back comparing The Miz to Jannetty. They went back and forth and began insulting each other. Morrsion called The Miz “Husky”. Then he asked the crowd if they thought The Miz was “Husky” and they agreed. The Miz was obviously annoyed and said that at Bragging Rights he would prove that he was better than his former partner. Morrison asked The Miz to prove himself now, bur he refused. The Miz said that he wouldn’t he wouldn’t fight in this second rate city, in this second rate state, in this second rate show. Morrison called WWE Monday Night Raw a cheap version of SNL. Ain’t that the truth! The two got heated and Morrison challenged The Miz once more. He knocked over his chair and confronted The Miz. They stared off into each others eyes until The Miz slid out of the ring. This was a very entertaining promo and another example of Smackdown building new stars.
Batista confronted Rey Mysterio before their match and said that facing him in a match didn’t feel right. Rey laughed it off and said that it was OK. Batista emphasized that he was his brother and that it didn’t feel right. OK! We get it. Batista was so boring in this segment, but then again what else is new.
The Undertaker did his usual promo. He said that if CM Punk, Armstrong the Referee, and Teddy Long would like to tempt their, he’ll be ready. Then he continued to talk about CM Punk. He said hat he would take his soul at Bragging Rights.
Batista lifted his shoulder to kick out of Rey’s pin. However, the referee did not see and Rey became the winner of match. Batista looked a little upset, but congratulated his friend. He left the ring for his friend to celebrate alone. CM Punk snuck behind Rey, attacked him, and ran away from the ring. Batista tried to chase after him, but decided to leave it till next week.
This was a boring episode of WWE Smackdown. There were few highlights that made this episode shine. The Dirt Sheet and the tag match between The Hart Dynasty and Cryme Tyme were great.
