Notes: Final Battle 2009 kicked off with the pick six four corners of survival match. Cabana and Omega teamed up against Titus and Castagnoli for half the match. They made for a great team until the Omega turned on Cabana to try to get him for the pin. No on person dominated the match, but in the end Castagnoli won the match. Omega and Cabana were both very entertaining during the match. They were fooling around and having a good time.

Delirious was left to fend for himself after Necro Butcher wasn’t able to get to the venue due to the snow storm. After Bison and Stevens beat Delirious to pulp, Pelly Primo comes out to save him. Without success, Primo gets thrown out of the ring. Enter, Bobby Dempsey to save the day. Delirious and Dempsey dominated the match afterward. Eventually, Bison and Stevens focused on Delirious until he couldn’t participate in the match. They turned their attention towards Dempsey. He took some major bumps and kicked out many times. Bison grew increasingly frustrated until he hit the powerbomb from the top rope and got a full three count.

Chris Hero had Hagadorn and Del Rey by his side as he battled Eddie Kingston. He used a few weapons in the ring such as a steel chain he used the wrap around Kingston’s neck. The crowd was split between Hero and Kingston until the Ouch! moment of the match. Hero managed to get a barricade into the ring (w/ the help of Hagadorn) and placed it in between the top and middle ropes, in the corner. He got Kingston to the top rope and dropped him on his neck on the barricade. Ouch! Hero went for the pin, but Kingston kicked out at two. The crowd was behind Kingston 100% as they chanted “Eddie, Eddie, Eddie!” Hagadorn and Del Rey got involved by attacking Kingston in the ring. Kingston ran them off and then suplexed Hero. Chris Hero came back by using is special elbow pad to deliver the kiss of death and elbow smash. Hero went for the pin once again, but Kingston kicked out at two. Kingston got a hold of Hero’s elbow pad and delivered his own elbow smash. Kingston went for the pin and won over Hero. The crowd was fully behind him. Great match.

The Young Bucks had a difficult time getting Steen down. Steen locked Nick into a sharpshooter and kept that hold as Matt tried to break it. Steen spat in Matt’s face and El Generico clothes lined him out of the ring. Steen kept the hold a few more minutes until his leg injury gave out. He tried to put Nick into the package piledriver, but was not successful in lifting him. With the help of Matt, Nick was able to break out. The Young Bucks double teamed Steen with more bang with your buck  and went for the double pin. Steen kicked out in the two count with The Young Bucks looking surprised. The Young Bucks each took turns to kick Steen in the head and then went for the double superkick. They pinned Steen for the win. The match lasted about twenty minutes and it was great to watch.

Afterwards, Kevin Steen gave what seemed to be a farewell speech. He thanked the fans and ROH for being the best company in the world. He looked at El Generico and said he hated his guts. Steen attacked him and gave a chair shot to his skull. Colt Cabana ran in to save El Generico and Steen left the ring. The crowd is left to wonder why Kevin Steen attacked El Generico.

Intermission.

Kenny King vs. Roderick Strong was a great match. Both competitors displayed a great deal of athleticism and flexibility. The match lasted about fourteen minutes before King gained a win by rolling up Roderick and pulling on his tights. The referee didn’t see the pulling of the tights.

It was announced prior to the match that Jack Evans and Teddy Hart were not able to make it to the match due to the snow storm. Rocky Romero and Alex Koslov continued to compete in a singles match. Romero and Koslov were pretty entertaining to watch. They had some good spots like Romero lying in the stands as Koslov jumps off the top rope. The crowd seemed pretty into the match as some chanted “Russia” and others chanted “Cuba”. In the end Romero got a win over Koslov.

The American Wolves were impressive as they worked really well as one team. They put The Briscoes into the sterero submissions simultaneously, almost making them tap. The Briscoes broke it off and rolled them up for a pin resulting in a two count. Later on, The Briscoes double teamed Edwards. Jay put Edwards through the Jaydriller and Mark flew off the top rope with the doomsday device. They made the pin and won the match. Afterwards, Chris Hero and Castagnoli ambushed the new Tag Team Champions. As The Briscoes lied on the mat, Hero and Castagnoli held up the titles as the crowd chanted “kings of wrestling”. Great match.

Jack Evans and Teddy Hart managed to get through the snow storm and participated in an unofficial singles match. This match was very entertaining. I am happy that Evans and Hart managed to make it to Final Battle 2009. The match lasted about eight minutes with Jack Evans making a 630 splash and pinning Hart for the three count. Afterward, Evans thanked his opponent. Teddy Hart asked for a rematch. Another great match!

Wow! I didn’t expect the World Title Match to last that long. It went past the 60 minute limit and ended in a draw. Austin Aries walked out on the match a few times leaving Tyler Black chasing after him. In the beginning, Austin dominated the match. As time went on, Tyler gained momentum. He fought back and even kicked Aries into a table and injuring his shoulder. Austin tried escaping through the crowd with no success. He headed towards the entrance ramp. Tyler Black got Aries onto his shoulder and dropped him on the ramp. Austin was busted up and lying the ramp for quite sometime. Eventually, they both got back into the ring. Once the time limit expired, they both continued to trade blows. Tyler Black came very close to winning the title, but was no successful in the end.

A fight broke out in the crowd and it turned out to be The Briscoes trading blows with Hero and Castagnoli.

This was a great PPV. I enjoyed watching every match and I loved watching the late appearances of Jack Evans and Teddy Hart. Good job Ring of Honor.
